01:56 pm: Cell Phones blamed for Bee Collapse
More good news from the environmental department. :(

"The results were astonishing. After the three months, the hive with the active phones saw the queen reducing the number of eggs she laid “significantly” — cutting the number laid by more than half — and the bees stopped producing honey. Worker bees regularly stopped returning to the hive as well.

What’s going on? The scientists behind the study call it environmental “electropollution,” suggesting that the magnetite in honeybees’ bodies is impacted by the electromagnetic fields that the gadgets create, causing bees to behave erratically or get lost."

Gods, I hope that there is no intelligent life out there as we deserve a bitchslap from all the damage we're doing...

Raven Kaldera Regis, King of Asphodel, has a "contract" with Raven's Boy, called Joshua Allen T.

Can one really contract away one's body, mind and will?

I'm a big believer that mixing stratified social obligations with religious ones to be a bad idea.
But throwing sex and domination into the religious mix has got to be like bringing torches to the fireworks factory to look around.

This crap has got to stop.

05:35 pm: Cool Poem
Something actually decent from P-Space... Go figure...

A Viking Kid’s Poem

It’s great to be a Viking kid,
For it is plain to see,
There are a hundred gods
That I can call to me.

There are protective bind runes
That mommy carved for me,
That I can fling at monsters,
And set them all to flee.

Odin watches me in sleep,
And Frigga hears my dreams,
I wake in Sunna’s warm embrace,
And play in Thor’s great fields.

From Frey and Freyja I will learn,
Great Vanic mysteries,
And giants teach me 'bout the things
That were and used to be.

From dwarves I learn to forge and make,
From Norns I learn my fate,
And in the end, I know I have
To keep with Hel a date.

It’s great to be a Viking kid,
For it is plain to see,
I have a hundred gods
For watching over me.

06:44 pm: Richard Dawkins calls for arrest of Pope

Have I mentioned how much I love these guys?

RICHARD DAWKINS, the atheist campaigner, is planning a legal ambush to have the Pope arrested during his state visit to Britain “for crimes against humanity”.

Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens, the atheist author, have asked human rights lawyers to produce a case for charging Pope Benedict XVI over his alleged cover-up of sexual abuse in the Catholic church.

The pair believe they can exploit the same legal principle used to arrest Augusto Pinochet, the late Chilean dictator, when he visited Britain in 1998.

The Pope was embroiled in new controversy this weekend over a letter he signed arguing that the “good of the universal church” should be considered against the defrocking of an American priest who committed sex offences against two boys. It was dated 1985, when he was in charge of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, which deals with sex abuse cases...

12:36 pm: Lipo - Do it for the Kids!
"Greenwich Dermatology is offering Kids in Crisis supporters an exciting new technology:   GentleWaves LED skin treatments - a zero down-time collagen stimulatory treatment helping in promoting healthy and youthful skin - at a cost of only $20 (normally over $100) per treatment.  All proceeds will go directly to Kids in Crisis. Limit one per week."

I shouldn't be bitter.  The money is good and green and the cause is excellent (as warehouses for children go).

04:33 pm: The Only Asatru Politician
Sigurjón Þórðarson, member of Ásatrúarfélagið, gothi

Does your faith shape the way you approach laws and the structure of government?
I’m in favour of separating faith and law, but I do think that faith marks the individual. I think that Christians and Ásatrúar have influenced each other. For example, look at the simliarities between Christmas and the pagan Jól. We’ve done that for ages, and I think this faith has shaped Icelanders’ views on things. A lot of what we believe comes from the old beliefs, and has influenced how we are today.

How so?
There’s the concept of “drenglyndi” [noble-mindedness], the philosophy of the Old Norse, as well as Hávamál [a collection of Old Norse proverbs], and the belief in a simple way of life. I think a lot of Icelanders can find a connection to that.

So what brought you to Ásatrú?
My brothers have been doing this for ages and also, this is not a “supposed to do” religion. In Ásatrú, you take responsibility for your actions and if you do wrong, you try to better yourself. It’s also a cultural thing.
